SCHOOL OF THE SKY is founded by Heather Schmidt. As a Juilliard-trained concert pianist and composer, Heather’s background focused on music, but she’s a true Renaissance woman whose skills range beyond music to include writing, filmmaking, art, dance and even sword fighting!
The PIANO ACADEMY is the first project to be launched through School of the Sky. Future plans include Academies in other areas including writing and art.
Heather Schmidt is an internationally recognized concert pianist and composer with performances, broadcasts, commissions and awards in Canada, the United States, Russia, France, Germany, Switzerland, Poland, the Czech Republic, England, Cyprus, Mexico, Brazil, and the British West Indies.
Heather began studies in piano at the age of 4, and composition at the age of 5. She gave her first reviewed public performance at age 6, appeared on television at age 8, and had her compositions published at age 9. She pursued double majors in piano performance and composition throughout her musical education. She studied at Juilliard in New York City and at Indiana University, where, at age 21, she became the youngest student to receive a Doctor of Music degree.
In addition to her extensive list of performances and recordings, Heather has taught piano to adults and children for over 25 years.
Born and raised in Calgary, Alberta, Heather currently lives in Los Angeles.
